I love the dumbass narrative “the US taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund all of the poor people in the world” which is usually coupled with “we need to take care of our own”, which is then followed by not doing that at all

I’m not arguing that foreign aid is bad and I do think it should be continued.
But assigning blame for bad outcomes on the lack of aid seems disingenuous.
For an analogy, you not giving money to the homeless guy down the street doesn’t make it your fault if he dies.
