If I got ragebaited by this, everyone else should as well. Dani Rodrik’s points in this essay aren’t wrong but framing them as against the economic consensus makes it seem like he has no clue what the economic consensus even is. He seems to write from a world in which the discipline had never advanced past the point of Friedman or even Smith.
Still, his actual points on industrial policy are worth reading so here it is.
