Idk at some point I’m not a fan of age discrimination and every person should be judged on a case by case basis but I also don’t really disagree with having a 86 year old in the Senate.

Have a feeling Moulton is going to lose worse than Kennedy. He’s clearly to Markey’s right, unlike Kennedy was in 2020, and Markey also has the ultimate counter in his back pocket to many of Moulton’s criticisms and she WILL do ads for him.

I think some of it has less to do with age and more to do with whether they’re progressive or not. Most older Democrats are centrists and most younger challengers are progressives. In this case, a younger centrist is challenging an older progressive. Moulton likely won’t benefit from that desire for younger candidates for that reason. Markey is popular with young people and will get tons of money from progressive groups.

The big issue that older politicians don’t want to bring up is simply how rapidly health can decline as you age. It’s not linear. The Biden in 2020, or even 2022, was much different than the Biden in 2024. The likelihood of a decline is going to increase as one ages, and especially so when they go through an intense political circuit. It’s even more important, unfortunately, with US voters who vote on vibes. It’s simply riskier in general with old candidates.
