For context, this is going to be a deepwater rig in the Atlantic Ocean many km off the coast, they’re not literally drilling inside the amazon rainforest. This is the same super basin that Guyana has just started drilling (and it’s why their GDP grew 43% last year)

The state of Amapá (whose coast will be the site of exploration) is probably one of the poorest, if not the poorest, state in Brazil.
It’s the only state not connected to the rest of the country’s electrical grid (and thus, the only place in Brazil that suffers from electrical shortages). Also the least connected state to the rest of the country, only way to reach it is by boat or by plane.
It’s last place, if not towards last, on most metrics. Unemployment is extremelly high, wages are low, cost of living is high, education is bad, violence is bad, healthcare is bad, crime is bad.
Macapá (the state’s capital) is the Brazilian capital with the lowest standard of living by far.
If this can get any development going on in Amapá, honestly, It’s worth it.

I was against doing work there without any regulatory approval. But I’m not against if IBAMA greenlights it. It feels like some people just want to be against or favorable for virtue signaling. It should be IBAMA authority to see if there is any risks or not.
