Donald Trump’s legal team is reportedly seeking $230 million from the Department of Justice, claiming damages from the Russia investigation and other probes. He says he’ll donate the money to charity if he wins.
But there’s a catch. His Trump Foundation was dissolved in 2019 after a New York court found it misused funds things like buying a portrait of himself and covering campaign costs. He and his family were banned from running another charity.
Now he’s suing his own DOJ, meaning the same administration that answers to him could be the one approving the settlement. That’s taxpayer money not his.
Can a sitting president actually sue his own Justice Department and get paid? Who signs off on the check? And if he really plans to “donate” it, how does that even work when he’s legally barred from operating a charity?

Probably illegal but he can pick the judges so he will get away with it.
He can choose any charity, he doesn’t have to operate it. Just because someone is legally barred from operating one does not mean he can’t donate to one. Donating and operating are two very different things. I’m not defending him but I’m just saying, feels like common sense.
Most corrupt president the United States has ever seen and probably ever will see.
This is straight up corruption. How is it not!?
He picks the Department heads and Judges and wants to award himself what ever money he wants. If he donates this money to his White House renovations, that means tax payers will in fact pay for it all during a shut down.
People can’t get food stamps for Thanksgiving but Trump gets what he wants.
Charity is his escort.
