What is purpose of the NAACP? It's the National Association for the Advancement of … who? How is that culturally acceptable in modern society? Why is the media and the entire establishment supporting it?

EDIT: For people saying the NAACP isn't racist, here's just one scholarship available directly on the NAACP website:

"The Uplift Scholarship is one of many funding opportunities available to Black students and students of color through NAACP's Inspire Initiatives."

Among the requirements: "Be Black or a person of color."

    1. You should worry less about the name, and actually educate yourself on what they do and why they’re needed.

    2. Most organizations like that are racist.

MLK’s dream was that little black children and little white children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. With DEI these days the whole goal is to judge you by your skin color.

I know it sounds weird, but that’s really what they were called back then. At this point it would be too much paperwork to officially change the name.

    4. I bet this just happened in a vacuum and wasn’t in response to any other form of prejudices or racism itself. As if organizations like this were reacting to something or some situation. Idk. It’d really help if we had a record of why they did what they did, or at least why they claimed to organize, but, you know, stuff like that doesn’t exist. It’s not like humans have the ability to communicate over time or anything /s

EDIT: On the flip side, it’s not illegal to be racist and the KKK has been around forever. What you don’t have is a right to tell someone else they can’t organize, so when you say “How is that culturally acceptable in modern society?” it’s simply because the Constitution affords the freedom to do so and you have no right to take that away. In America, we have a culture of ‘free speech’.

    5. I’ve seen so many examples of media pushing messages like “This person was killed because they were black/gay/trans” instead of past history that person had with their assailant. I’ve seen it happen so many times that I’m actually doubting everytime I see that.

Why would someone throw away their entire lives to go to prison just because they don’t like someone being black or gay? It honestly makes no sense at all.

    6. For sure. At my old place of work, a black lady wrote prescriptions for narcotics firing the doctor’s signature, and when found out… even though he could have prosecuted her… he only fired her…. and she went off saying she would get the NAACP on him. He saved her if anything from jail. But yea, she went to then and they tried to make a scene for her. Even though she was doing something very highly illegal.

Her firing had nothing to do with race as other women in the office were also black.

    7. Yes. I can buy that maaaayyybe at one point it was kind of helpful, but that point is far in the rearview. Charities and orgs don’t exist to solve problems, they exist to make money by talking about the problem and lobbying for special shit for the people they represent. Exactly like lobbyists. If the problem they lobby for goes away, they don’t make money. That’s bad for them.

    8. Y’all act like all of the sudden people, wether lgbtq or non-white races/etc.., have been fighting for their own equality for decades and somehow anything against them just vanished

Essentially, implying there is no need for these organizations as everyone is completely equal in this country

Do we really find that true?

Or are white people joking about them being fine doing something in front of cops, while acknowledging other races may not have that same privilege, a clear indication that we haven’t quite reached that point yet?

I just don’t understand how anyone can say racism doesn’t exist in this country. I can agree that legally there isn’t really anything too racist in existence at the moment, but culturally there certainly is and is something I’ve experienced a good bit of. Most racism these days is veiled and hinted at, rather than being overt. But I’ve heard many overt racist things when other white people seem to feel they’re in a safe space.

I just think you have to be purposefully dense or sticking your head in the sand to say that this country is 100% free of any racist thought

Also, trying to spin people fighting for their rights as the racist ones is next level evil work. It’s not like they’re black supremacists trying to fight for power over everyone else, they’re literally just asking for equal treatment and equity in society…

    9. I turn the question back to you. We saw what JD Vance said about the republicans who had those crazy text messages. He called them “kids making a mistake.”

If the vice president isn’t going to condemn people wishing people who look like me to die, then why shouldn’t I turn to the NAACP for help?

    10. It was necessary at the time and now it’s time for the association to remove race from the name and from the mission and to e we irk for the advancement of all people..

      Ben

    11. Why is the media supporting it? Ask yourself who runs the naacp its the same people who own the media

One of the hallmarks of this administration has been the determination to try and goad Black people into a confrontation by denying history, the present, the very notion of truth itself and reframing the majority, or a favoured element of the majority, as not only victors, but victims. Black people have a long memory of such psychological games and, as a result, are not taking the bait. The minute Black people do – the first whiff of a riot – is the trigger the Trump regime is waiting for to go fully mask off, with the public consent of the majority.

Its not racism, its an organization that was founded to counteract Jim crow, red lining, block busting, imminent domain, destruction of black towns, lynching, race based employment and various other injustices that occurred after slavery was ended.

    14. We’re not doing these divisive kinds of posts in here anymore brother. Don’t fall for the race baiting bullshit.

How much racism does you racism detector get when you point it at the Republican party?

    16. Recent_Associate2981 on

It’s not, you are the racist. If you think you are being slighted by the NAACP, that will confirm that you are indeed the racist.

You need some history in you, dude. Learn about the militarization against black and brown neighborhoods in the 50’s & 60’s. Learn about why gun control exists in places like California (hint: it was because ARMED Black Panthers were defending black neighborhoods from regular police abuse). Learn about the many Black advocacy groups that were created in that era… what they stood for then, how many of them were sabotaged, what they stand for now and how they are necessary even though they’re completely imperfect organizations.

This is coming from a poor (poverty) white kid who grew up and read a bunch of books to learn that my high school’s version of history was awfully propagandized.

    18. Because it’s existed since 1909 and based on current events there are still reasons to keep it around.

    19. Come on dude do better. We redlined those people. We put jails beside where the plantations were and we used them for slave labor. They didnt get gi benefits. We denied them loans because they were considered high risk. Grow. Evolve.

      Quit crying.
