As an extreme couponer, I don’t think it’s that bad. Not every has time for it, and deals can be regional, but I regularly post about how I get ~70-80% off retail grocery prices ([example week](https://www.reddit.com/r/SanDiegan/comments/1ehn56t/best_grocery_deals_731_86/)). I can’t negotiate my electric bill. I can choose to buy the most affordable grocery options. There’s so many products out there, you can refuse to buy things when prices are bad, it really is an area I see with high consumer choice and that keeps it competitive.
I don’t disagree with the FTC here, but I do think there are other areas where consumers truly are price takers and have fewer options, and those sectors are the greatest need of action.
