I guess the new government will be more actively diverging from previous policies under Assad.
I remember Assad recognising the Donetsk and Luhansk Russian puppets as independent too, not that it mattered since Russia annexed them half a year later.

It seems like al-Sharaa is basically making every overture he can to be U.S.-aligned. If only the U.S. wasn’t actively destroying its status as a global hegemon with a responsibility to steward liberal democracy.
