I stumbled on this clip of a history professor (Prof. Jiang) and he just lays it all out. He says the whole story we learned in school about “progress” is a lie. His main point is that civilization was a device to “gaslight” people into believing the elite’s hierarchy was legitimate when it wasn’t.
He even argues that writing was invented just to be propaganda to fool people. The whole 10 minute video is a masterclass on how power really works.
I’ve often said that civilization is not the great thing to be proud of that they teach.
We all lived like bad ass Hunter gatherers, like navy seals, with dogs at our side.
We could handle ourselves. A marathon? Hah. A jaunt.
And only so many people were around that could be fed.
Then you get cities where there’s debt and rich and poor and your daughter could get pimped out of you’re not careful and your whole family sold into slavery.
