I'm of the camp that Trump is a pretty intelligent dude. But this is not Batman or Lex Luther. There's no way in hell he predicted the Democrats were going to go on strike – that way opening the door for him to mobilize more guard troops.

Sadly there’s no compromise in politics anymore, on either side. The Dems are steadfast on defending the assistance policies, and the GOP are steadfast on eliminating them.
The Democrats and the media say that this is Trump’s fault, yet the Democrats could stop it in an instant simply by voting to reopen the government, but they refuse to do so. So it’s just propaganda, and I don’t see how anyone is dumb enough to fall for it. I suspect that the majority of them know this, but they’re fine with using poor people as unwilling pawns to get what they want.
