Ghana orders foreigners to exit gold market by April 30

  1. This is the same Ghana that a few years said it wanted to reduce cocoa exports to Europe and start moving up the value chain. The Ghanaian government has also drastically increased its gold reserves. As commodity prices start rising and African countries see less aid, they will need to start moving up value chains and follow something closer to the East Asian model. It should be noted the Asian tigers had their governments heavily involved in economic development.

    Anyway, protectionism is clearly rising worldwide.
