I think what this is showing how injustice that is not punished and institutional failure that is not fixed will come back at you. Injustice has its own long arch. As somebody that lived through the Bush era, many features of Trumpism, or rather the fact that the US government is amenable to them is not completely surprising.

In that sense I feel that personally, more than the grave injustice currently happening, the most important lesson is that it will not just stop on its own when Trump is gone. Yes, nobody might have the same charisma as him and can get away with what he did. But they might not have to. The rot inside the US is deep and fundamental and it will continue.

This sub has always held institutions to be the core of state governance, so I think the question is how to fix the US on that level. Personally I am afraid that if ordered there is nothing really stopping the CIA and other pieces of the security apparatus from going after dissidents. Not after random citizens at once, but piece by piece after people deemed undesirable in escalating severity and reach.

  2. of course they’ll do this, nothing happened to george bush so who cares about silly things like “morality”? crime is legal now, haven’t you heard
