They try to give the impression that half the world is gay or wants to be gay or that anyone could easily be trans.
In reality, it's only about 5% of the world that is homosexual. Then only less and 1% is trans. Then significantly further still for people with genuine gender dysphoria over Autogynephilia.
It's to a point that this seems to be engineered.

I think because it generates attention. Good or bad.
It’s about representation. While I can see how you might view it as “over representation” because in reality, if you looked at it purely statistically you probably see more gay/trans character in the tv show/movie/media “population” than in the real world population but the reason for this is that everyone wants their show or piece of media to be able to resonate with all and in order to do that you have to include all in your media. We also might view it as over representation because of the start contrast to previous media which had no representation of some of these minority groups previously and now the push for inclusion makes them feel more prevalent by contrast.
It’s called social engineering.

The Last of Us one is fine to me since that’s how the game was and it didn’t feel forced in the game.

Because until very recently, this shit couldn’t be talked about, and then it became okay, so people who’ve wanted to tell these stories for ages finally got their chance to.

Money. More representation and less backlash means safer bets for advertisers, who see media being vanilla enough for their products to show up. It has absolutely nothing to do with being more progressive and everything to do with the progress of capital. If people feel like they are being represented in the stories in media, they’re more likely to keep paying streaming subscriptions to keep watching the same shows over and over.
Because although gay and trans people exist irl, they haven’t in movies and tv proportionately. Granted, they over corrected and leaned in a bit too hard, but that is self correcting now. If you don’t think they should exist in movies or tv at all, you don’t live in reality.
Population control. Gay people can’t have kids
I risk upsetting people; but my take is as follows.
Family based economy is entry level financial freedom and therefore freedom as advertised by society at large. This solves your immediate Maslow’s hierarchy. It serves many more non-essential but highly helpful functions to an individual and all parts of the family as a social group.
Gender identity offers authority and certainty. If you’ve no immediate concerns on what you are, you can focus on what you want. However if that certainty is eroded and your biological imperative starts to serve a purpose of alienation rather than belonging, you need to spend time to redefine and fit in as a functional member of society while being at odds with yourself.
I realize many may enjoy the representation or feel that it is harmless, but I will say that in my experience both of these target groups have been represented in media prior to this push.
If there is a sinister agenda behind it, it is the erosion of financial freedom and certainty of identity/belonging causing choice fatigue.
If there’s only a minutely sinister agenda behind it, it is because it sells. But boy those 5% must be some hard earners.
I mean to cause no offense nor promote hate, everyone except the ultrarich is equal in my eyes.

The moment I see a gay or trans character on a show super early on, I know its going to suck. Atleast now when I see one I know better and just hop off that show. No offense but that aint for me.
Theater kids run Hollywood. Once you realize that its much less conspiratorial and more about the gays writing about themselves and their friends. Thats why it’s such a huge disconnect from most people. In LA your entire community can be whoever you want it to be.
