Article Summary: “Given the choice,” one many Democrats still can’t seem to grasp, “the American people always support strong and wrong vs weak and right.”

Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, current sits atop the polling and prediction markets as the front runner for 2028. On paper, he has a strong resume; mayor of San Francisco, Lt. Governor and then Governor of California. He is brash, aggressive, and unashamed to stray from liberal orthodoxy, while not shying away of taking the fight to MAGA, rather than playing defense. But he carries a long train of baggage, both personal and political. He has vulnerabilities from attacks from all sides, the Left, the Center, and the Right.

Newsom marks a departure from the establishment democrats and the progressives. He is the rare “anti-establishment moderate”, who largely agrees with democratic policies while embracing an aggressive style of branding and messaging.

With the 2028 democratic field wide open in a way that it hasn’t been in decades, and the MAGA agenda growing unpopular, why not Gavin?

“Gavin Newsom would rather be wrong than weak.”

That sentence alone is why he is the ideal candidate in the modern era.

Bill Clinton was a philanderous womanizer and he was one of the most effective Democratic presidents in living memory. Sure Newsom slept with his best friend’s wife, but it’s leagues better than whatever Trump was doing with Epstein. The median voter craves a sleazeball IMO. Then again I live in San Francisco so I’m a bit biased.

  3. His baggage is nothing compared to what we’re fighting against. Newsom has shown tremendous leadership recently–and has been successful with it. Getting redistricting passed was very impressive.

I do like Mark Kelly, too.

I agree that Americans want strong leaders. I kinda get it right now, tbh… I feel starved for decent leadership. The Democratic Party really does wallow in its own indecision, and yeah, that makes feel less confident in their ability to lead effectively when shit hits the fan.

**controversial:** i did not care for the french laundry. it was good, even great… but for such a lofty pedigree it fell a bit short. and i even like thomas keller (bouchon is one of my fav restaurants). atelier cream, addison, and hayato are all better michelin-level experiences imo.

  5. No, I dont think so. I like Newsom, I really do, but he will not win over America and visually as well as tonally embodies the “corpratist” side of the democratic party, which is extremely unpopular right now (for both legit and unfounded reasons).

Pete Buttigieg, Mark Kelly, Pritzker, or even big Gretch would be better choices in my opinion.

Honestly, dudes good. His main weakness is that he is from California so the GOP idiots, the besties, eat al, will say California is a shithole or some inane thing like that but it’s workable.

It’s going to be sad when the infighting starts and the progressives say he’s not strong enough on trans rights or Gaza or something and work towards tanking his candidacy
