  1. TLDR: UK immigration is down and they’re processing asylum claims at a record pace (they’re clearing the backlog and making quick decisions)

    Summary of statistics:

    1. 168,000 work visas granted, 19% down from last year, 50% down from 2023 peak. 13,000 Healthcare and 48,000 skilled visas were granted, down 91% and 36% respectively.

    2. 407,000 student visas granted, 3% down from last year and 25% down from peak. Dependent visas are also 20% down.

    3. 101,000 asylum claims, 4% down from last year. 135,000 decisions were made, which is an all time high. Asylum grant rates are also down (42% as opposed to 47% earlier) and 19% fewer people get hotel accomodation

    4. 23,000 people were detained, up 11%. Of these 9,900 were forcefully deported, which is up 21% and 28,000 self deported which is 5% up. 5,600 were offenders deported after conviction, which is up 11%.

    5. 67,000 new family visas were granted, which is a 22% down. There were 72,000 family visa extensions, almost all of them partner visas which is 16% increase.
