France 24 reports that a German court has temporarily barred the domestic intelligence agency from labeling the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) a “confirmed right-wing extremist” group. The Cologne administrative court said there were anti-constitutional tendencies within the party but ruled it was not sufficiently defined by them to justify the higher designation. The decision suspends the move by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) pending a final judgment in the AfD’s legal challenge. AfD co-leader Alice Weidel called the ruling a “major victory,” while Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the party would continue to be monitored as a “suspected” extremist group.
