It’s almost like the problem is that the median voter doesn’t want to live next to poorer people but this form of discrimination is not seen as as bad as traditional racism for some reason.

Why this article is related to neoliberalism:
This article summarises why neither Democratic nor Republican candidates do enough to advance housing development and issue permits: local voters don’t consider an abundance of housing beneficial to them, and sometimes even see high housing prices as beneficial to their property values. The author proposed a possible solution: federal funding for new housing permits. Those that are deeply tied to neoliberalism, as the current housing crisis is one of the biggest threats towards liberalism, and also the policy side advocacy.
My point on this:
I largely agree with the author’s argument that the source of nimbyism in local government is the nimby attitude in local nimby residents. However, I would argue that instead of a federal fund, a tax directed at land value would be a more effective incentive for local voters to give up housing market speculation. Also, funding should be devoted more to building infrastructure than to rewarding.
