Submission Statement: In a very dark day for queer rights in India, Indian President Droupadi Murmu has given her ascent to the Transgender Persons Amendment Bill despite a lot of criticism, pushback, emails, letters, and petitions by the LGBTQ community in India.
This bill masquerades as a “trans rights act”, but in actuality erases transgender identities, criminalises chosen families, removes self identification, rights of trans men, and requires intersex people and hijras to undergo an invasive medical checkup by a board to change their gender.
