Americans spend more on healthcare than anyone else in the world. Just insuring a family here costs nearly $27,000 a year, enough to buy a car.

The main cause: Prices are far higher in the U.S. for the same medical products and services, from surgeries to drugs.

American patients have also been using more care recently, including costly hospital treatment and expensive new drugs for weight loss. That has pushed up spending as well.

Submission Statement: article goes in depth on why healthcare costs so much, ranging from prescription drugs, hospital consolidation, labor costs, among other things

Same causes as 10 years ago, probably?

    1. Artificially restricted supply of nearly everything

    2. Zero bargaining power for providers against their suppliers

    3. End users insulated from the costs of their overuse

    4. Middlemen employ thousands of people who don’t want to lose their jobs

Because pharmaceuticals, Insurance and hospitals are all top spenders in lobbying

  3. Dentist offices can have a 40-50% ROI and be considered average. Some of the industry is seriously profitable from a small business standpoint. Primary care is a little lower last time I checked and in the 30% ROI.
