To be fair, it is pretty ridiculous that POTUS is such a weak Executive that he can’t even build a damn ballroom without getting stopped by the courts. This is literally why every President ends up taking us to war. All of them get into office with big ideas about how to make the country better & then all of them soon learn they can even build a stupid ballroom without 20 different courts stopping them. Teddy Roosevelt called it the “Bully Pulpit” (because you basically bad to bully people into getting what you wanted because the job has so little inherent power). Obama said it was like being the captain of a big cargo ship & you can either steer the ship 2 degrees to the left or 2 degrees to the right (but forget about turning it fast enough to avoid an iceberg).

Because our crazy system gives the President full authority on foreign affairs to launch a world ending thermonuclear strike, but not enough authority to even build a freaking ballroom when it comes to domestic affairs — this is why we always end up in war. Anybody complains about any US President being a “King” or “Authoritarian” simply has no clue what they’re talking about. POTUS has less relative power within the US system than literally every other Executive in every other democracy.

I’m not saying any of this as a defense of Trump, I’m explaining common misperceptions about the power of POTUS that lead to us misunderstanding why they all end up disappointing us.
