Whatever doesn’t affect our immediate life, we grow desensitized, if something huge were to happen, less likely for anyone to care, this is why the government gets away with so many things.

In 2007 Naomi Klein called this effect the “Shock Doctrine”, and Alvin Toffler alluded to it in his 1970 book “Future Shock”.
