Andy Burnham, who hopes to participate in a future Labour leadership contest after winning the Makerfield by-election, has announced that he will keep the State Pension triple lock as PM, and has also stated that he will “look into” the fact that more pensioners are beginning to pay income tax.
This is what I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) the first time he has extensively talked about his opinion on the current pension system, which is expected to grow by £15.5 billion yearly by the end of decade if the triple lock remains.
Obviously I am against this as we all know how unsustainable the triple lock is, but one silver lining is that Burnham did not specify whether he will keep the Triple lock after the 2029 general election, so hopefully we will see some changes in policy after this point.

This is why I’ve been saying that Keir Starmer is (sadly) our only hope against total boomer luxury communism.

Interestingly this announcement has come alongside renewed discussions among defence spending, [after John Healey resigned over the Labour government not wanting to commit ~£13 billion extra to defence, when he wanted £18 billion.](https://theconversation.com/what-john-healeys-resignation-as-defence-secretary-means-for-keir-starmer-and-the-uk-285111) This will probably spark discussions as to where government spending priorities should go to.
