Within Bill C-15, the Budget Implementation Act, is a provision that grants ministers the ability to exempt people and corporations the ability to bypass all federal laws for up to six years, aside from the Criminal Code, for the sake of ministerial efficiency. This is among the measures pursued by Carney to achieve efficiency by bypassing norms. Certainly I think a portion of the sub would be in favour of this, but as the interim NDP leader Don Davies warns this could possibly lessen the accountability of the federal government.
2. I, as a general platitude, don’t think it’s a good idea to allow ministers or the government to bypass laws quietly. But other than that, I don’t have any prerequisite knowledge to really pass judgement.
