The Japanese government plans to set up a new public-private economic security council begin 2026. Its purview is to include supply chains for such “specified critical products” as semiconductors. The council will work to have government policy reflect comments from private-sector players such as corporations. The private-sector participants will have a duty of confidentiality equivalent to that of public-sector workers. With the duty of confidentiality, private-sector violators may also face criminal penalties, such as imprisonment or fines.
