For the first time, government statistics have shown that more than 1 in 20 people in South Korea are part of the ‘migration-background population,’ meaning they or one of their parents was not a South Korean national at birth.
South Korea is relaxing immigration rules to combat demographic crisis. This policy is referred as “Human Resources Supply Management Policy for the Preservation of National Manufacturing Competitiveness”. This policy increased visa quotas for foreigners who want to work in South Korea’s factories and shipyards.
This influx of immigrants is causing backlash, too. Pro-Yoon far-right crowd started “Charlie Kirk riots”, assaulting foreigners while wearing MAGA and waving US/Trump/Kirk flags. They are upset about foreigners, especially Chinese migrants, coming to Korea. NL factions ( Korean far-left ) shows their ugly face again, ranting about “national purity” being threatened and how the jobs of Korean workers are being stolen by “dirty” foreigner. They are concerned about the racial purity of Korean society.
