Special inspector general on the presidency is an office that oversees the corruption of the President and his/her cronies. It was created at 2014 but it remained vacant since 2016 because Lee Suk-soo, then special inspector general, investigated into “Choi Soon-sil” Gate, a vast corruption scandal involving collusion between Chaebols and Choi Soon-sil, a shaman and close spiritual adviser to then President Park Guen-hye. Park fired him to cover up the corruption but th scandal continued to escalate until it blew up in 2016 Candlelight Revolution, resulting in the demise of Park Guen Hye.
This kind of incident made later president not appoint special inspector general because you know…they feared the corruption of their cronies will be revealed.
