A friend and I went to Walmart a couple days ago. She didn’t have her physical card so I used my card to pay for her stuff. My card is linked to my Walmart account. A day or so after, the friend texted me.

“Hey do you remember when we went to Walmart and I forgot they don’t do tap to pay so we used your card?”

“Yeah why”

“Well that somehow showed up in my purchases”

It showed up in her recent purchases and in my recent purchases. There’s no way it could have been linked to her app because we used my card. The only thing we can think is that because her face was in front of the camera at the self check out it linked it to her by facial recognition.

We also bought other stuff that I scanned. The only purchase that showed up in her app was the stuff she scanned.

Photos of both of our recent purchases for reference.

The self checkout asks for your phone number. When entered, it connects the purchase with the account associated with the entered phone number.

While I think it’s possible. Wonder if she made it easy for it having the app open and order in it? Or it saw or connected to her phone at some point. If you’re using WiFi your on their network

  3. You can see that on the cameras they have, especially at self checkout they literally grab your face.

Walmart stores card numbers across platforms and shares the data with additional sites like Ibotta and Facebook. Coming from someone who certainly doesnt work for Walmart or anything.
