Officials in hearings and various other documented meetings suggest yes, they are voluntary. Though I’m not yet sure of how to go about it practically.

Not a problem if you’re a sovereign citizen. I would suggest calling the IRS and letting them know your plans to not pay. They will advise you on the next steps. /s

Freedom law school says you can just stop paying and as long as you don’t sign those tax forms you are all good. They also have a membership fee, a small portion of your income tax, that will pay for any and all legal issues you might run into by not paying taxes.
