Greed and money a lot of the time, and transphobia. A belief that they’re one of the good ones and any misgivings they get from the Christian looneys that have taken over the party is outweighed by their desire to not pay taxes and be seen as normal

Same with why a farmer would vote for Trump, or a Latino, or a military vet, or a working class person, really anyone who isn’t a Christian nationalist or anti-immigration advocate. It may hurt them but they hurt someone else more.

Many white LGB people who are straight passing may do it to try and differentiate themselves from queer POCs and trans/non-binary people. There are also many LGBT people who care about stuff like tax cuts and curbing immigration more than their own rights.
I do think this trend slowed down in recent years because of Republicans becoming increasingly homphobic again. The exit polls in 2020 showed that Biden won the LGBT vote with a margin of around 64/27, but Kamala almost got a 90/10 margin.

I’d like to say self-hating or some shit like that, but no. I mean it’s kind of is if you stretch the analysis, but from my experience going to an elite college and have some suspects (I don’t ever explicitly ask people how they vote), here are the possible main reasons:
1. Fiscal policy: I went to business school and this is the top reason. Of course there’s heavy bias in the income brackets that I interact with, but basically they hate taxes and would trade a lot for a few percent cut. Republicans consistently deliver on that.
2. Liberal / progressive culture: call it whatever you want, demeaning leftists however you want. Liberals have a culture too, every political sphere kind of does. This area is
1. more complex, can be that they don’t fit in or the politics of respectability, but culture is a major reason. Ranging anything from Pride parades to bike lanes lol (yes, I’ve met a gay guy who votes Republicans because of bike lanes)
2. Anti-trans or just bigotry in other areas: this does not need more explanation

Because they think that being rich insulates them from consequences and care more about fucking over poor people than about safeguarding other members of their sexual orientation.
Or because they are racist enough to believe that fucking over minorities is worth the cost.
