Meanwhile, the headline implies that Facebook goes out of its way to sow dissent in Canada, which is yellow journalism at best.

What is relevant about this? Yeah people found out platforms pay for engagement and they created accounts to farm engagement from political issues.
Like this already became well know after twitter(X) activated the ability to see locations or if someone was using VPN or the country from which someone downloaded the app. Tons of accounts pushing political views as if they were in the USA were instantly discovered to have been people from other countries.
