Unlike in the west where young ones are overwhelmingly vote for liberals and leftists, Korean liberal grip on the young ones are weak compared to the west.
This stem from the youth lack of understanding on Korean politics. Many young people think DPK is the party of government/establishment because they have been in power for the most of their adult life. This made a “illusion of liberal dominance in Korea”, which made Korean establishment looks more liberal than reality. Some delusional young ones think DPK = US democrats. As the young people have tendency to think being anti-establishment as “cool” and “counter-culture”, the display of DPK support among youth considered “uncool”.
But many neolib users know, Democratic Party of Korea should not be confused with US democrats because their pro-union & social conservatism. They are not blue-haired feminists waving rainbow flags and lean more onto blue-collar workers with more traditional mindset.
This is giving headache for DPK leadership (which is facing call to resign over Seoul defeat to Oh se-hoon.) and some liberal pundits call for DPK leadership to learn from US Democrats as they have better “meme politics” with sophisticated online strategy to dominate youth votes.
