  1. Summary Statement: Argentina has begun Sabre-rattling over the Falkands again. Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno just wrote a long opinion article about how Britain needs to reopen negotiations. Part of this is because England are about to play Argentina in the World Cup, however it’s also about how construction has begun on the infrastructure needed to drill an oilfield 220km to the north of the Falklands. The first oil is expected in March 2028, reaching a maximum of 50,000 barrels per day in 2032. Javier Milei labeled this a “unilateral and illegitimate” attempt to “advance on resources that belong to Argentina” and has vowed diplomatic efforts to halt it.

    I don’t think they’ll ever give this up. It’s too convenient a distraction to use whenever things are going poorly domestically.
