Iran will no doubt try whatever it can to make this blockade too costly for America by trying to connect some kinetic attacks at the blockade. Problem is, our boats just have to be on alert and ready to defend. No added costs associated with the hours of action downtime and only when an attack occurs do our tax dollars take a hit. And Iran cannot overwhelm a fleet of american ships with their diminished missles and small boats that are hidden in caves.
In the reverse, Iran needs oil moving so it’s reservoirs dont top out or their pumps forced to shut down indefinitely. If it does get to that point, their equipment starts failing and breaks down and they start incuring million dollar losses at staggering rates. This is now a war of attrition and the losing side is now trapped with no means of significant relief amd no path to even a pyrric victory. This will be a very costly conflict. Their proxy allies are not gonna be able to support well either if ‘their’ funding stagnate.

The noose tightens around the regimes neck.
